Community
When I ponder the question of “what is community?” the first image or metaphor that comes to mind is – people sitting in a circle around a fire sharing stories and food.
In that image, I see several important fundamentals of community:
- common intention
- exchange – sharing and listening, care and nourishment
- shared physical space and time
I have conducted my community-based projects in this spirit – my intention has always been bringing people together in one physical environment to create meaning together. I use theatre to explore the moments and spaces where we are most human, where we share our vulnerability with each other, and where we see the commonalities in the diversity.
